Question 1: If angles A,B,C and D of a quadrilateral ABCD, taken in order, are in the ratio 3:7:6:4 then ABCD is a trapezium. Is this statement true? Give reason for your answer.

Solution: Since, the angles are in the ratio 3:7:6:4,

Let these angles be 3x,7x,6x and 4x.

∵Since sum of angles of a quadrilateral is 360°,

∴3x+7x+6x+4x=360°

⇒ 20x=360°

⇒x=18°

∴The angles are:
   ∠A=3×18°=54°,
  ∠B=7×18°=126°,
  ∠C=6×18°=108° and
 ∠D=4×18°=72°

Since ∠A+∠B=54°+126°=180°. Thus, the sum of co-interior angles is 180°formed by lines AD,BC and transversal AB, ∴, AD∥BC.

So,ABCD is a trapezium.

Hence, the given statement is true.

Rule 1: A singular subject takes a singular verb.

Rule 2: A plural subject takes a plural verb.

e.g.

Rule 3: If two singular nouns are joined by 'and' and used as the subject, it takes plural verb.

e.g.

Exceptions: Words used in pairs like 'bread and butter', 'bag and baggage' are considered singular and take singular verbs.

Q1: A force of 200 N acts on a surface of area 10 cm². Calculate thrust and pressure. How much the pressure changes if the area of contact increases to 50 cm².

Answer:
Force = 200 N
Area = 10cm² = 10 x 10^-4m²
Pressure (P) = Force ÷ Area
P1 = 200 ÷ 10 x 10^-4 = 2 x 10⁵ Pa

New area = 50cm² = 50 x 10^-4m²
P2 = 200 ÷ 50 x 10^-4 = 4 x 10⁴ Pa

Change in Pressure = P1 - P2 = 2 x 10⁵   - 4 x 10⁴
                                = 1.6 x 10⁵ Pa



Q2: A cuboid room has dimensions 50m x 15m x 3.5m. What is the mass of the air enclosed in the room if the density of air = 1.30 kg/m³.


Answer: Volume of room (V) = 50m x 15m x 3.5m = 2625m³
Density of air (d) = 1.30 kg/m³
Mass of air = V x d = 2625 x 1.30 = 3412.5 kg
