CBSE Class 8 Maths - Linear Equations In One Variable (Q and A)

Q1(MCQ): If 3x – 4 (64 – x) = 10, then the value of x is

(a) –266
(b) 133
(c) 66.5
(d) 38

Answer: (d)38
  3x - 256 + 4x =10
  7x = 10 + 256 = 266
  x = 266/7 = 38

Q2: Three consecutive even numbers whose sum is 156 are 51, 52 and 53.
State if the above statement is True or False

Answer: False

Let the three consecutive even numbers be x, x+2, x+4
∴ x + x+ 2 + x+4 = 156
⇒ 3x + 6 = 156
⇒ 3x = 156 - 6 = 150
⇒ x = 150 /  3 = 50
Thus numbers are 50, 51, 52

Q3: Fifteen added to thrice a whole number gives 93. The number is __________.

Answer: 26

Q4: x = –12 is the solution of the linear equation 5x –3(2x + 1) = 21+x (True or False)

CBSE Class 9 - Maths - Quadrilaterals (Questions and Answers)

Class 9 NCERT Exemplar Problems and Solutions

Question 1: If angles A,B,C and D of a quadrilateral ABCD, taken in order, are in the ratio 3:7:6:4 then ABCD is a trapezium. Is this statement true? Give reason for your answer.

Solution: Since, the angles are in the ratio 3:7:6:4,

Let these angles be 3x,7x,6x and 4x.

∵Since sum of angles of a quadrilateral is 360°,

∴3x+7x+6x+4x=360°

⇒ 20x=360°

⇒x=18°

∴The angles are:
   ∠A=3×18°=54°,
  ∠B=7×18°=126°,
  ∠C=6×18°=108° and
 ∠D=4×18°=72°

Since ∠A+∠B=54°+126°=180°. Thus, the sum of co-interior angles is 180°formed by lines AD,BC and transversal AB, ∴, AD∥BC.

So,ABCD is a trapezium.

Hence, the given statement is true.

CBSE Class 9 - Floatation - 7 Simple Numerical You Must Know

Q1: A force of 200 N acts on a surface of area 10 cm2. Calculate thrust and pressure. How much the pressure changes if the area of contact increases to 50 cm2.

Answer:
Force = 200 N
Area = 10cm2 = 10 x 10-4m2
Pressure (P) = Force ÷ Area
P1 = 200 ÷ 10 x 10-4 = 2 x 105 Pa

New area = 50cm2 = 50 x 10-4m2
P2 = 200 ÷ 50 x 10-4 = 4 x 104 Pa

Change in Pressure = P1 - P2 = 2 x 105   - 4 x 104
                                = 1.6 x 105 Pa

Q2: A cuboid room has dimensions 50m x 15m x 3.5m. What is the mass of the air enclosed in the room if the density of air = 1.30 kg/m3.

Answer: Volume of room (V) = 50m x 15m x 3.5m = 2625m3
Density of air (d) = 1.30 kg/m3
Mass of air = V x d = 2625 x 1.30 = 3412.5 kg
